Paintsville Police are warning about another text scam making the rounds as they are getting more sophisticated in their appearance.
This one, which they have posted for you to see on their social media, looks like a court summons for a traffic violation.
It claims to be from the Kentucky District Court and looks pretty official with a judge’s name and a case number.
Watch for some of the red flags: an urgent demand for payment, a QR code for payment, and a threat of going to jail or having your credit damaged.
None of those things are the way an actual government agency interacts.
