Kentucky State Police Investigating Murder in McCreary County

STEARNS, KY (September 13, 2025) – On September 11, 2025, at approximately 5:42 PM, Kentucky State Police Post 11 was contacted by the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office regarding a missing person investigation involving Damian A. Poole, 36, of Monument, Colorado.

During the investigation, deputies executed a search warrant at a residence on Farm Ridge Road in the Stearns community of McCreary County, the reported residence of Mr. Poole. Upon entry, deputies discovered a deceased individual inside the home and two dead animals. Members of the McCreary County Sheriff’s Department secured the scene until additional KSP units could arrive. Trooper Kevin Roberts and Trooper Shaler Jones arrived shortly after.

Preliminary findings indicate the decedent sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A male subject was located at the residence: Daniel A. Kearney, 39, of Stearns, Ky.

Following interviews, Daniel Kearney was charged with Murder, Abuse of a Corpse, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Cruelty to Animals 2nd Degree. He was transported to the Knox County Detention Center.

The McCreary County Coroner pronounced the victim deceased at 11:30 PM. The body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for autopsy and the family has been notified.

This case remains under active investigation by Detective Matthew Parmley, with assistance from Kentucky State Police personnel, the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office, and the McCreary County Coroner’s Office.
