A bill which aims to protect first responders in Kentucky is advancing.
Senate Bill 104, also called the Halo Act, would give police officers and other officials a 25-foot “buffer zone” while responding to emergencies.
This means, anyone who gets closer than 25 feet after being verbally warned to stay back would be subject to prosecution.
Initial penalties would be misdemeanors, but charges would escalate to felonies for repeat offenders.
The bill passed the Kentucky Senate on Thursday and will now head to the Kentucky House.
