Charges have been filed against a man shot by Paintsville Police Sunday.
As we’ve been reporting, officers were attempting to arrest Shawn Gayheart when they got into a physical scuffle which included tasers and pepper spray before shots were fired.
The two officers are on leave while Kentucky State Police are investigating.
Court documents show the police wanted to talk to Gayheart in connection with a theft downtown.
They say they took a gun off of him but when he ran from the arrest, the fighting started and he allegedly tried to pry the gun back which is when the officers fired.
Gayheart is said to be in stable condition.
He is charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, menacing, assault and being a persistent felony offender.
