Former Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines has a court date next month. Stines is charged with murder for the shooting death of District Judge Kevin Mullins inside the judge’s chambers at the Letcher County Courthouse in 2024.
The judge in the murder case has asked for a status hearing and about several pending motions in the case; it will be held June 5 in a court in Leslie County which is where Stines is in custody.
Stines’ attorneys have indicated they will claim Stines was suffering from “extreme emotional disturbance” and some psychological evaluations have been ordered.
