UPDATE: Woman Who Escaped From Pike County Detention Center Arrested

Update:

A woman who reportedly escaped from the Pike County Detention Center on Wednesday is back in custody.

Authorities say 36-year-old Whitney Hurley was captured in West Virginia yesterday morning.

Officials at the Pike County Detention Center issued a statement yesterday explaining that Hurley took off from the facility while on work duty after a contracted employee did not shut a door properly after going outside to take out trash.

A West Virginia woman has also been arrested for aiding and abetting Hurley, according to authorities.

Kentucky State Police are searching for an inmate who walked away from the Pike County Detention Center on Tuesday evening.

According to officials at KSP Post 9 in Pikeville, 36-year-old Whitney Hurley of Freeburn left the detention center at approximately 5:53 p.m.

Hurley is described as a white female, 6 feet tall and weighing 127 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing white shorts and a white T-shirt.

Anyone with information about Hurley’s whereabouts is asked to contact KSP Post 9 at 606-433-7711.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Trooper Brennan Eckart with the Kentucky State Police.
