Some new equipment at the Paintsville Fire Department could be a lifesaver in an emergency.
The department has bought a new swiftwater rescue boat that the responders say will be an important addition.
Firefighter and EMT Chris Burton tells the Paintsville Herald that having a rescue boat is an obvious benefit, given that more people are using the rivers for kayaking and recreation, and that flooding is becoming a sadly common occurrence in the region.
Burton says the boat gives firefighters more confidence that when a water rescue call goes out, they’ll be well equipped to answer it.
The department plans to train more members to use the boat, which will be available 24/7.
