Asphalt paving on US 23 in Johnson County continues starting Monday, July 10, at the Floyd County line north to about 973 feet north of Cannell Coal Road (mile points 0.0-1.3). The work is expected to take about two weeks, depending on weather.
Crews will work approximately 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. weekdays, closing one lane in each direction and then changing the traffic pattern when one lane is finished so that the other lane can be paved Motorists will have access to turn lanes at all times, directed by barrel alignment.
The work zone speed will be 45 miles per hour with double fines for violating the speed limit and will be enforced by KSP Vehicle Enforcement officers.
“We want to remind people follow the work zone signs, be patient and alert, and respect the posted speed limit to make sure this project goes as safely and smoothly as possible,” said Doug Wright, Highway District 12 Paintsville Section Engineer.
