According to a news release from the Paintsville Police Dept. in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 29, the Paintsville Police Dept. received a call of a suspicious person on Preston Street that was wandering around a vehicle that did not belong to him. Upon arrival, officers interviewed the owner of the said vehicle and was told the man went into a nearby residence. When Officers went to the home they located the man, along with a female. During the investigation, a large amount of cash ($467), digital scales, 48 different prescription pills, .6 grams of a crystal substance, several syringes and straws used for possible drug use were located inside the residence. Officers arrested Jeffrey Stanley, 43 of Blue River, Ky. and Shirley Melvin, 54 of Paintsville.
* Stanley was charged with Criminal Trespassing 3rd, Probation Violation (for misdemeanor offense), Burglary 2nd, Persistent Felony Offender, Public Intoxication-Control Substance (excludes alcohol), Serving Bench Warrant, Giving Officer False Information, Drug Paraphernalia Buy/Possess, Poss. Of Controlled Substance 3rd (Drug Unspecified), Trafficking in Controlled Sub. 1st Degree/1st Offense (2 Grams Methamphetamine).
* Melvin was charged with Trafficking in Controlled Sub. 1st Degree/1st Offense (2 Grams Methamphetamine), Possession of Controlled Sub. 3rd (Drug Unspecified), Drug Paraphernalia Buy/Possess, Tampering with Physical Evidence.
Officer Zachary Mitchell with the Paintsville Police Dept. is the Investigating Officer. He was assisted at the scene by Officer Zach Stapleton (PPD) and Johnson Co Sheriff’s Deputy Jesse Mullins. Both Melvin and Stanley are lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
