Second Outdoor Warning Siren Installed in Johnson County

In addition to the storm siren on Main Street in Paintsville (pictured), a second warning siren has been installed in Johnson County.

The second siren has been installed in the Staffordsville area at the Foothills Communications office on KY-40.

Paintsville/Johnson County Emergency Director Gary McClure says the sirens will be tested on the first Monday of each month and that both sirens would sound at the same time.

The sirens were installed primarily for use during tornado warnings, but officials say they may also be used to warn residents of approaching severe thunderstorms.
