JOHNSON COUNTY, KY (KYTC) – Frederick & May Construction Company, low bid contractor on the new bridge on KY 1559 in Johnson County, announced a work start date of Monday, March 6.
People will see signs and stakes installed on Monday with mobilization of equipment starting on Tuesday, March 7. The first part of the project involves demolition of the current structure, which is set to begin Wednesday, March 8.
Chad Frederick of Frederick & May said that the projected completion date is May 8, assuming the weather cooperates and there are no unforeseen problems with material shipments or equipment.
He also said there should be no impact on traffic on either side of the work zone, since motorists have not been able to use this section of roadway for about 18 months. The bridge was closed in July 2015 when it was deemed beyond repair during a flood event that affected Johnson County with millions of dollars in damages to homes, businesses, roads, and bridges.
The West Liberty construction company was awarded the low-bid contract in the amount of $495,830.03 to build a new structure and demolish the old bridge. The company has 48 working days to complete the project. It should be noted that official Construction Season begins April 1. Any work the company does prior to April 1 does not count toward the contract’s working days. Weekends, holiday, and inclement weather days are also not counted as working days.
