Tom Petty Dies at 66

Rock star Tom Petty is dead at the age of 66.

His manager says he suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu, California and died last night after being taken to UCLA Medical Center.

Petty was born in Gainesville, Florida and dropped out of high school to play with his band, Mudcrutch, which later evolved into Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.

They made the charts on a regular basis in the 1970s and 80s with hits like “Refugee,” “Don’t Do Me Like That,” and “Free Fallin’.”

Petty was also part of the supergroup Traveling Wilburys, along with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne.

(Los Angeles, CA) — The Los Angeles Police Department can’t confirm the death of rocker Tom Petty.

Multiple earlier reports citing the LAPD said Petty passed away at the age of 66 after suffering cardiac arrest.

The LAPD now says the information was “inadvertently” provided to some media sources.

New reports indicate that Petty is clinging to life.

According to TMZ, a chaplain has been called to Petty’s hospital room, who’s not expected to live throughout the day.

TMZ is citing sources as saying that he was found at his Malibu home in cardiac arrest.

Petty is best known as the frontman for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Their hits include “Breakdown,” “Here Comes My Girl,” and “Refugee.”

In the late 80s, he joined the Traveling Wilburys with Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison.

He also saw success as a solo artist, with hits including “Free Fallin” and “Runnin’ Down A Dream.”

A new report says a decision has been made to take rocker Tom Petty off life-support after he was found unconscious, not breathing and in full cardiac arrest last night.

TMZ says paramedics rushed him to the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital after they were called to his Malibu home.

The celebrity gossip site says he was taken off life-support because no brain activity has been detected. The 66-year-old rocker just wrapped up a whirlwind tour.

Petty is best known as the frontman for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Their hits include “Breakdown,” “Here Comes My Girl,” and “Refugee.”
