State highway workers read to Highland Head Start students

Students in Danielle Mayhan’s Head Start class at Highland Elementary in Johnson County were treated Thursday, March 2, to a visit by volunteer readers from Highway District 12 of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Keith Hill, bridge inspector for Johnson, Lawrence, Martin, and Floyd counties, and Scott Adkins, Superintendent I at Martin County Maintenance, joined forces to read Dr. Seuss’s Left Foot, Right Foot. Hill and Adkins brought the children gift cards from McDonald’s and Buckle-Up Keychains. Every student raised a hand when asked if they always wear a seatbelt and ride in a child safety seat.

There are 20 students in Mayhan’s class. The aides are Sheila Hill and Michelle Pack. The students are Landon Back, Shantel Bailey, Aubree Blair, Carson Blevins, Lexi Cantrell, Kylie Davis, Abigail Gullett, Bailey Hall, Piper Hall, Jaylan Hammond, Noah Hannah, Hunter Helton, Jaiven Hunley, Bentley Johnson, Carter Mckenzie, Jacob Mckenzie, Sara Owens, Ava Tackett, Olivia Watson, and Alyssa Young.
